Short-Term Mission Trip Member Agreement

Involvement on a church mission team is a great privilege. In going, I represent not only The Bible Chapel but, more importantly, Jesus Christ. I go as a member of a team modeling the Gospel as well as speaking it. Mission team members set aside personal agendas and aim for the good of the team and what brings God glory.

I am in agreement with the following guidelines as a mission team member and understand that these elements are vital to the spiritual effectiveness and physical safety of the mission trip. Failure to abide by the guidelines set forth will result in immediate action that could include immediate return home and ineligibility of future mission trips.

I will demonstrate RESPECT:
I agree that I am a guest in another country (or city), representing The Bible Chapel and our Lord, Jesus Christ.
I desire to learn as part of this experience. Other people’s methods or ideas will be respected, even if I find them ineffective.
I will maintain a servant’s attitude and heart toward my team members and the missionaries and natives with whom I work. I will do what needs to be done to ensure the quality and success of the mission itself.
I will respect my team leaders and their decisions. I am aware that they may know things that I don’t and I will not consider it my duty to challenge their decisions.
I will abstain from the consumption of all alcoholic beverages, tobacco, or any illegal drugs. I will notify the trip first-aid coordinator of any prescription drugs that I am taking.
I will dress appropriately at all times in accordance with The Bible Chapel Mission Trip Dress Code.
I will stay in the designated areas and understand that I cannot leave the site or lodging location for any reason without the permission of the team leader.
I will not go into any of the rooms of the opposite gender, unless directed by the team leader.
I will respect the privacy of others. I understand that others’ possessions must not be tampered with or taken and expect others to grant the same measure of respect to my possessions.
I will respect the property and grounds of where we are serving by keeping it free of litter.
I will refrain from any and all activities that could be construed as a romantic or sexual interest toward a team member, missionary or national. What may be innocent in my culture may be perceived as inappropriate in other cultures. Unnecessary physical contact (such as non-arrival / departure hugging and any sitting on laps, back rubbing, etc.) and flirting are inappropriate with anyone. Dating relationships need to be put on hold during the trip. Co-ed hugs should not be full frontal hugs, but rather a friendly side hug.
I will demonstrate a good ATTITUDE:
I will refrain from passing judgment and gossiping, but instead, look to build others up.
I will refrain from complaining. Ministry and travel can bring both unexpected and difficult circumstances. Handling those unexpected situations in a Christ-like manner supports the work and honors Christ.
I will refrain from negative comments regarding the situation where we are serving or the host countries politics and/or culture and customs.
I will demonstrate good TEAMWORK:
I will attempt to build up the missionaries and ministries that our trip has been called to support. I will try to encourage their work whenever possible.
I will be inclusive to all other team members. Even if I have friends and family on the team, I will engage with all team members.
As a member of a Bible Chapel short-term mission team, I serve to extend the ministry of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to another culture. I agree that adherence to these guidelines is necessary to attend a mission trip, as well as during the duration of the trip.
